Next-generation sequencing has developed into a powerful tool that can be used to detect, identify and quantify novel viruses (RNA/DNA) in one step1. It is proving to be a sensitive method for detecting putative infectious agents associated with human tissues and viral transcripts can be detected at frequencies lower than 1 in 1,000,000. We use customized tools for library preparation, sequencing and data analysis using Illumina, Nanopore and pacbio.
